A Stitch in Time: Embroidered Stories from Mexico

A Stitch in Time: Embroidered Stories from Mexico

In the village of Tsintsuntsan (the home of the hummingbird) in Mexico, mothers embroider scenes from everyday life for their daughters before marriage, to be kept as souvenirs and heirlooms. You will choose a photograph of a cherished moment in time and embroider your own keepsake or perhaps give as a gift to a loved one.

To get us inspired I will give a little presentation at the beginning of the course about when I visited the Purépecha artisans in Mexico and their fascinating culture, traditions and crafts! You will learn how to plan an embroidery using a sampler of stitches embroidery stitches (straight, back, stem, fly, daisy chain, french knots), design an embroidery pattern, transfer an embroidery pattern and set-up an embroidery frame.

This course is ideal for intermediate and experienced embroiderers in need of some inspiration.

All materials will be included (embroidery hoop, a selection of threads, scissors, linen fabric, pattern transfer and notes to remind you of the stitches).

Places are limited to six so that we can enjoy learning together with lots of individual attention and tips for those with a bit more experience.

Classes are given in English (French and Spanish can be accommodated also) and held in a charming artist’s studio overlooking Buttes Chaumont park in the 19th arrondissement of Paris (directions will be sent when booking is made).

This course includes 3 x 2 hour classes and will be held from 2pm until 4pm on Saturday afternoons in the New Year (2020!). If you would like to do the course (yay!), the dates will be posted soon or otherwise you can contact me directly here.
